Make a note of any names of the words you find or your virus detector records as an offensive file, if you received the virus in email, write down the topic line or name of the file attached document to the message. Then search on a anti virus website for details to what you wrote down,  try and find the name of the virus and instructions for how to remove it or any other details about the virus, trojan or spyware and then see what it does and how new it the virus is and look for examples and how to remove by hand.
